CUHK wins the highest ratings in the inbound exchange metric, in fourth position worldwide, indicating the massive scale of the university’s inbound student exchange programs. Internationally, one of the most beautiful universities in Asia is also known for its strong focus on science, gaining a near-perfect score on the international research network’s predictor.
9. Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST)
Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), located in Daejeon (150 kilometers south of the South Korean capital, Seoul), is a public university with a student population of over 10,000. Founded by the Korean government in 1971, the university was the first research-oriented institution for science and engineering.KAIST fell one spot this year to take the ninth spot in the rankings. It is one of the best Asian universities for international students.
8. Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST)
Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) ranks eighth in Asia and 32nd globally and is an international academic university devoted to education and research with exceptionally high research results. In the citations per paper and international faculty metrics, HKUST wins some of the highest scores in Asia, ranking second and fourth respectively, giving an impression of the university’s exemplary academic performance, as well as its potential to recruit international faculty members.
7. Fudan University
One of China’s most prestigious and exclusive universities is Fudan University, based in downtown Shanghai. Founded in 1905, several notable alumni have been developed by the university, including World Bank Director Zhang Shengman and Chen Zhongwei, a leader in the process of reattaching severed limbs. This top university is ranked seventh in the Asia University Rankings and 40th in this year’s world rankings, performing well above many metrics, including academic credibility and employer reputation.
6. Zhejiang University (ZJU)
One of the oldest universities in China, dating back to as early as 1897, is Zhejiang University (ZJU). Today, ZJU is one of the top higher education institutions in China and one of the best universities in Asia, rising to 6th place this year with an unprecedented seven positions. ZJU has a clear foreign viewpoint, has collaborations with more than 180 universities in more than 30 countries around the world, ranks top for the inbound student exchange indicator in Asia, and fourth for the outbound student exchange indicator in Asia. It is one of the oldest universities in Asia which is also still relevant and popular.
5. Peking University
At the top five, Peking University is safely in the fifth position for another year running. In 1898, as a substitute for the Guozijian School (Imperial College), Peking University was established as another of China’s oldest universities. Peking University has been consistently ranked as one of China’s best academic institutions since then, and it is also renowned for its impressive campus grounds and traditional Chinese architecture.
4. Tsinghua University
Tsinghua University dropped one spot, only missing out on a place in the top three, taking fourth place this year. The university was founded in Beijing in 1911 and is renowned worldwide for its reputable engineering and computer science programs, making it one of Asia’s best universities.
Tsinghua University also claims the title of mainland China’s top-ranked university.
3. The University of Hong Kong
The University of Hong Kong remains among the top three higher education institutions in Asia this year, despite losing one spot in the rankings in 2020. Hong Kong University is the oldest tertiary institution in Hong Kong, with a history dating back over 100 years. The University of Hong Kong, affiliated with more than 340 top universities in 43 countries, is very well-linked internationally. The company also performs well in this year’s world rankings, taking joint 25th place and ninth place in the 2020 Graduate Employability Rankings. It features among the list of best Asian universities for students of all fields.
2. Nanyang Technological University (NTU)
Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore is the second-best university in Asia in 2020; one spot has risen this year. Established as Nanyang Technical Institute in 1981 and only became Nanyang Technical University in 1991, NTU is one of Singapore’s youngest universities. Given this, in the first place for the citations per paper metric, the institution is hugely study intensive.
