At present, there are over 100 HBCUs across the U.S. granting degrees to students from all racial and ethnic backgrounds. Many of the schools still continue to manage to keep costs low despite having smaller endowments. In this article, we will have a look at the most affordable public and private HBCUs to <a href=\"https:\/\/unicreds.com\/blog\/why-study-in-the-usa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">study in the US<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before we begin you must know that Vice President Kamala Harris is the first graduate of an HBCU in the White House. This has drawn even more attention towards these institutions.&nbsp; Also, as a part of President Joe Biden\u2019s campaign pledge of $70 billion to HBCUs and minority-serving institutions, these schools are in line to get a much-needed boost. This school, which is part of the University of North Carolina System, was founded in 1891 after a bill sponsored by Hugh Cale, an African American representative in the state General Assembly. It aimed to support Black students in their education, training them to become teachers themselves. This school was founded in 1884 by the Colored Baptists of Arkansas as the Minister\u2019s Institute, changing its name the following year. Religious studies remain one of the school\u2019s primary educational programmes, though other options include business administration, fine arts, public administration, social and behavioural sciences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"4-southwestern-christian-college-terrell-texas\"><strong>#4 Southwestern Christian College: Terrell, Texas<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In-state and out-of-state undergraduate tuition: $8,131<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Southwestern Christian College offers another great affordable private HBCU option. The school was founded in 1948 and is sponsored by members of Churches of Christ. This school opened in 1878 intending to educate Black Baptist ministers and freedmen, beginning with the first class of just four. It\u2019s grown since but remains relatively small, with 540 students enrolled. Selma identifies itself as a Bible college, offering students higher education alongside religious studies.
